Course Overview
Epilepsy Awareness Training provides an overview of epilepsy, such as methods of diagnosis, what a seizure looks like and how it affects the brain, potential triggers for seizures, plus what to do when someone has one. It also covers treatments for people with epilepsy and practical advice on what steps you can take when witnessing a seizure.
When discussing epilepsy, it’s essential to understand that there are around 40 varieties of seizures. Studies have shown that one in five people will have a seizure at some point in their lives, although not all will be due to epilepsy.
Epilepsy is a neurological condition that influences the brain and the nervous system and is covered by the Equality Act 2010. This disorder can be short-term or last someone’s entire life. Considering the diverse symptoms of this condition, it is incredibly beneficial for healthcare providers to understand epilepsy and what to do if they witness someone having a seizure.
